As many of you know, the Techs at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, Oregon have had a years long fight for justice at the hospital where they work. We had to strike in 2021 to win our first union contract, and we are now again at the bargaining table to trying to secure a beautiful future for both healthcare workers and the patients we serve.
Unfortunately, St. Charles executives are back to their old tricks. They are refusing to support common sense proposals that would promote living wages, work/life balance, and safe staffing. Recently, St. Charles' bid to rapidly expand services was denied by the Oregon Health Authority specifically because hospital leaders won't ensure competitive wages for the healthcare professionals they employ.
We know that when healthcare workers get the supports they need, our patients win. That is why we are coming together, St. Charles Techs and the Central Oregon community, to walk the picket line on Thursday, August 15th. From 4pm-7pm, we will be holding a picket at 2500 NE Neff Rd in Bend to demand that St. Charles put patients and staff over profits. We invite everyone from our community to join us and to help send a message to St. Charles' executives that it's time for them to make the right choice for the community they claim to serve.
